Well, it is indeed a very short way to fly, more like a bus ride than a flight, definitely not more than 40 minutes. And the pilot excelled in riding the wind and got us down in time.

This review is aimed at all travellers who are on their way to Trapani and to Malta. I suggest that in both cases, you pre-book a Ryan airflight when the offers are incredibly cheap and stay for a weekend inthe other place. In both cases, it is surely worth every penny you spend as both countries have so much to offer. And with Ryan air flights sometimes hitting a one Euro (€ 1) point, if not zero, (yes that is true, I flew with just one euro and another euro return), it’s not only possible but economical too.

Ryan air is fast. The online check-in method saves a lot of hassle andyou can get to the airport at a much later time that is (without risking losing your flight) closest to the departure time. You walkthrough the security check with your hand luggage and after a fewmoments in the lounge, are called to board the plane. Simple,efficient, fast.

Trapani is so close to Malta that by the time the plane gets to stop climbing after take-off, it starts to prepare for landing. Arriving at either destination is like getting off the bus since both are Schengen member countries.

Malta is a very attractive tourist destination. Steeped in history, and brewed through centuries of conquests by different peoples and cultures, Malta is a jewel in the Mediterranean. But so similar is the region accessible from Trapani. Erice, for instance, with its Norman castle is reminiscent of Mdina in Malta, with its own Norman House. Beautiful cobbled streets and extensive breathtaking views – unforgettable for all your life.

And then the good food, the excellent wine, the hospitality, not to mention the wonderful tan, the lush countryside – you will love it. Sicily is not all like the zone we are talking about. But even so, so much has changed in recent years to modernise and improve that some places are virtually unrecognisable from a few years back. Castellammare del Golfo is a picturesque fishing village set amid lofty hills and guarded by its castle. Enjoy a local couscous served with a side dish of mouth-watering fish soup and a lovely local white wine. And then off to the ice cream parlour, Italian style with all those fresh fruit flavours direct from the Mediterranean.

The same goes for Ghajn Tuffieha and Marsaxlokk in Malta, both guarded by towers in high places, beautiful paintings to take home in your heart. Savour the octopus or rabbit stew with bay leaf and the local bread and ask any farmer for a bottle of their own vintage (at around 14% - better have a siesta afterwards).

There is so much more that one can describe but words will never be enough. I suggest that you keep an eye open for cheap flights between the two countries. Buy the tickets, and at € 1 (or less) if you’re really enjoying yourself where you are, it could be a case of “maybe next time!” Which would be a real shame.
